Georgia Secretary of State Business Entity Search

There are multiple ways to search for a business in Georgia (GA).

You can search by:

  • Business Name (useful for conducting business name availability search)
  • Control Number
  • Registered Agent Name
  • Officer Name

Search By Name

Step 1: Open Georgia Corporation division business search page – Link (opens in new tab).

Step 2: Select the ‘Business Name‘ option and enter the name of the business you are looking to search.

Search tips

  1. Use filters – ‘Starts With’. ‘Contains’ and ‘Exact Match’, to narrow down the search.
  2. Avoid using common punctuations and business designator like LLC, Corporation etc.

Step 3: Click on the ‘Search‘ button

Step 4: On the next page, you can view the results.

Each entry in the results page will have following info:

  • Business Name
  • Control Number
  • Business type
  • Principal office address
  • Registered/designated agent name
  • Status

For the purpose of illustration, we searched for ‘Motor‘ keyword and used the filter ‘Contains‘.

The search resulted in 7292 matching entries.

By Control Number

Each business registered with Georgia SOS is assigned a unique 8 digit control number. Using this number you can directly query the business details. Unlike search by name, this is an accurate form of search as only one result will be shown.

How to Search?

Open the GA business search page and select ‘Control Number‘ option. Next, enter the 8 digit number and click on the ‘Search‘ button.


Registered Agent Name

If you would like to find out the list of businesses with which any registered agent is associated with, then use this search method.

How to Search?

Open the SOS business search page and select ‘Registered Agent Name’. Enter the name of the registered agent and click on the ‘Search‘ button.

On the next page, you can view the result.

Additionally, the following details will be shown: Business Name, Control Number, Business Type, Principal Office Address, Registered / Designated Agent Name, and Status.


Officer Name

Use this option to find the list of business entities with which any of the business officer (director, member, owner) is associated with.

Do you know how I can find out what type of LLC a particular business is listed under? Like s-Corp or c-Corp?’

    Good question. However, this information is available only with IRS and cannot be searched on the SOS website.
