Hawaii Secretary of State Business Entity Search
Below we have provided step-by-step instructions on how to search for a business entity in Hawaii.
Search by Name
Step 1: To get started with the search, visit the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs homepage.
Step 2: Click on ‘Business Name Search / Find File Number‘ link (ref: image below). Alternatively, click here to open the search page directly.
Step 3: On the next page, enter complete/partial name of the business in the search box.
The drop-down menu has the default filter as ‘Begins with‘. This filter will limit the search results to only the business name starting with the keyword entered. Change the filter to ‘contains’ to find business names containing the keyword in any part of the name (refer the image below).
Note: Make sure you enter atleast 4 characters in search, otherwise the search result would be too broad.
Step 4: Click on the ‘Search‘ Button.
Step 5: On the next page, you will be able to view the list of business entities that matched the search criteria.
Note: If the search result shows the status as ‘There are no businesses for this search term‘, it means none of the businesses matched the search criteria. This also means that the name is available for registration.
For each business on the results page, you can see the following details:
- Record type
- File Number
If you prefer to refine the search further, you can choose more filters from the drop-down menu like ‘Record Type‘, ‘Status‘, and ‘Entity Type‘.
For illustration purpose we’ve used ‘Ultra’ as the search term with ‘Contains’ filter, ‘and it resulted in 240 items (refer the image below).
